Celebrating with Flowers This Christmas

It’s that time of year, time to pull out the tinsel and put up the tree. Here in New Zealand we still follow many English Christmas traditions but we also have our own traditions based on a summer Christmas.

One of these is the way we think of the pohutukawa now as our national Christmas tree. They start flowering about mid-November and have usually stopped by New Year. Around Tauranga they look great with their decoration of stunning red flowers leading up to Christmas.

Festive flair always runs through flowers. Christmas flowers often decorate trees and dinner tables and are given as gifts. Another popular Christmas plant is the Poinsettia, native to Mexico and named by the Aztecs who made dye from the flowers.

Bouquets of flowers make great Christmas gifts, bringing a pop of colour and natural perfume to an already wonderful occasion, while gorgeous red roses are perfect decorations for the Christmas table.

It's a time to make the most of beautiful summer flowers, especially roses and peonies. Let the flowers set the mood and keep the colours simple and harmonious. Cut the stems of long blooms and bunch them up or place them individually in bottles or jars.

Surround yourself and the people you love with flowers from Flowerpop this Christmas.

Florists aren't just based at stores or online, they can be found creating floral magic at events from parties and restaurants to weddings and political events.
