Flower Power Better Than Coffee?
Looking for a productivity boost? Or just want to make your day a little better? While a cup of coffee makes for a pleasant wake-up call, it seems plants can also help us rev up our brains.
A study from Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital noted that when researchers introduced subjects to floral arrangements, participants perked up and felt more energetic. In the same study, people saw a spike in their overall positivity after being around flowers for a few days.
Flowers are good for us. Research consistently links flowers with well-being. They've been proven to help make us less anxious and tired, and generally put us in a more positive psychological state.
It's even been determined that cognitive performance is better in offices with plants than in workplaces without them. Flowers can help our memory and ability to focus with research showing that performing tasks surrounded by natural décor leads to calm, greater accuracy, and soothing mental fatigue. Researchers, Shibata and Suzuki even collected evidence that linked seeing green leafy plants with being more creative.
So being around flowers and plants have plenty of positive psychological benefits and unlike coffee, you won't have to worry about that post-caffeine crash! Not that we think flowers should replace the daily Flat White - why not enjoy both?
